Presidents' Day Blizzard, 2003

Hey, Canada! We're done with your weather, you can have it back now!

Big picture of the house

A car-shaped snowdrift

My car is down there somewhere. The pictures aren't great -- it was overcast and still snowing some. In fact, it still is as I'm typing this.

This was the first view from our doorway, before we started clearing anything. I'm looking out of the door that you can seen in the center of the big picture.

The view from my front steps

Yesterday, they were predicting we'd get at most 3"-6". Looks like they were wrong, eh? That's my neighbor across the hall digging her car out. She just got it mostly cleared and the city plow came by and plowed her right back in. (figures, the one time they actually plow Hall Street ...) You might just barely be able to see tire chains on the front wheels of the black car there. We had to put them on to get home from the store yesterday.

Looking toward the house from the street

Here's what it looks like from the street. The pile of snow to the right is taller than me. Quite a bit taller. We're talking about eight feet here. I think I saw a squirrel selling lift tickets.

Slab cracking loose on the snow mountain

Avalanche danger today: HIGH. Ski slope closed!

Slabs of snow are starting to crack off and slide down the big mountain of snow. People were carrying shovel-fulls of snow around to the side there because there's nowhere left to put it near the parking area.

This is normally the sidewalk

This is normally the sidewalk, looking down Hall Street past the house. It looked a lot less like the Grand Canyon a couple of days ago.
